Marathi Poem

Holy cow! English joke

Holy cow!

A pair of cows were talking in the field. One says, “Have you heard about the mad cow disease that’s going around?”

“Yeah,” the other cow says. “Makes me glad I’m a penguin.”

Ego Is the Enemy - Ryan Holiday

What is EGO?  Why it is harmful?
A person's disbelief of self-esteem or self-importance is ego. A person with ego always thinks that what he speaks, thinks, does etc. is always right and ready to fight with others for it. In this book author has explained how ego is harmful. Author demonstrated with practical examples that how ego is biggest barrier to ones success and friend of failures. History is made by the people who have kept their ego aside and worked for  a cause.
Author suggests below techniques to get rid of ego
Plus Minus and equals
There are 3 types of people in this world when compared with us. First people better than us, people equal to us and people less than us. People better than us can teach us. People equal to us can compete. Challenge to grow. We can teach to people minus that us to bring them to competitive level
Get out of your own head
Actions are important.Don't be passionate.Imagining what you think success will be like but never taking the action is passionate. Always stay grounded to reality. Purpose is more important than passion. Leave passion for armatures.
Always be a student
Always learning increases our potential. Humbles the ego and reminds us that we have not yet reached to our potential. It opens us for acceptance of failures negative feedback criticism. Promotes us to self assessment. If one always becomes student then there is no room for ego .  Always learn new skills techniques, things Those who do not learn with time and upgrade themselves get wiped out. Swallow your pride
Alive and dead time
Dead time is passive time or waiting Alive time is time used for actions. So act with time and use every second. Convert ego into humility. detach yourself from outcome. Accept failures. Don't get upset for lower results. Start working again.
Evaluate yourself
Constantly evaluate yourself. Maintain a scorecard. Only when free from ego one can perform. Ignore the noise. Accept all criticism. Bounce back from the lower results
Meditate on Immensity -Sympatheia. Ask who am I? What am I doing?  What is my role in this world.
Thus Holiday makes the interesting point, that only when people manage to take their ego back and engage in relentless self-improvement and constant self-assessment, they are going to be successful.  It is not the ego, the charisma or the revolutionary vision that makes someone great.

The Greatest Salesman in the World(Og Mandino)

The Greatest Salesman in the World is a philosophical book serves as a guide to salesmanship, and success. The book was first published in 1968.The book narrates the story of Hafid, a poor camel boy who achieves a life of abundance by following the 10 scrolls described in the book. Mandino suggests 1 month per scroll. Hence it takes 10 months for these scrolls to opt as habit.
Scroll I - I will Form Good Habits and Become their Slave
The first scroll is the basis and key to the other scrolls. It shows the importance of formation of good habits. To change my habits, I must have awareness of them and then replace the bad habits with the good ones. It took years to form bad habits. Only wishful thinking doesn’t work we must act.
Scroll II - Greet Each Day With Love In Your Heart
Everything is possible with a heart filled with love. Love is my greatest weapon says Mandino. I must love myself and others. Hate destroys everything. Love encourages. I have no time for hate. I am accountable for better solutions instead of gossiping, blaming and being divisive.
Scroll III - I Will Persist Until I Succeed
On each failure i will not stop. I will take another step always. I will move forward even if i don't know how many steps i need to take to reach my goal. I must remove from my vocabulary “cannot,” “hopeless,” “impossible.” I will look obstacles as lessons or opportunities. I persist and I will win.
Scroll IV - I am Nature's Greatest Miracle
I am unique with my own talents and my own mission. There is nobody like me. Being goal driven is the key. I constantly seek to learn, grow and improve my manners, speech and skills.
Scroll V - Live Each Day as if it Were Your Last
Past is gone future is yet to come hence live in present.Live today as my last day. Today is the best day of my life to take steps rowards my goal. I will use today to live a better life.
Scroll VI - Master Your Emotions
My moods rise and my moods fall. I will master my emotions. “Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his actions, strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts.” In Buddhism there is a saying: be a master of your mind instead of your mind being your master.
Scroll VII - The Power of Laughter
I Will Laugh.Human beings are the only living creatures who can laugh. I will not take things seriously. I will live like a child will be without ego.
Scroll VIII - Multiply Your Value Every Day
Today I Will Multiply My Value A Hundredfold. I will live out of my vision. I must improve my performance. I will never give up. I must always exceed and make next hour better than the previous one.
Scroll IX - All is Worthless Without Action
I will act now.Actions are important than words.holds . I will act now without hesitation. Fear generates procrastination.
Scroll X - Pray to God for Guidance.
There is a super power above all. I must ask for guidance from God the creator of universe

Power Of Subconscious Mind (Joseph Murphy 1963)

A great book which equates subconscious mind with God. Subconscious mind acts automatically based on your thought process emotions and feelings. It saves energy by storing data for skills or daily activities of body. Hence whatever stored in subconscious mind decides our future. This book acts as user manual for human mind. Hence we must be always filled with positive thoughts. We need to reprogram our mind for positivity.
Content from page 8 of the book-
“As you sow in your subconscious mind, so shall you reap in your body and environment. Imagine your subconscious mind as a bed of rich soil that will help all kinds of seeds to sprout and flourish, whether good or bad. Every thought is a cause, and every condition is an effect. This is the reason it is so essential that you take charge of your thoughts. In that way, you can bring forth only desirable conditions.”
The book gives below methods to reprogramme the mind to feed the subconscious properly for better life
  1. Repetition: Feeding our subconscious mind with repeated constructive and harmonious thoughts will lead to the formation of new, healthier, habits for  subconscious mind. Always think positive and make it as a habit
  2. Visualization- Visualize the better future instances in mind strongly
  3. Mental Movie method: Play a movie of success in mind
  4.  The Baudoin Technique Baudoin was a psychotherapist. He discovered that the best way to feed the subconscious mind is when we are in tired state, in which all effort  required is reduced to a minimum. At this state conscious mind is less powerful and subconscious is most active.
  5. Thank You Technique: Gratitude brings huge positivity.
  6. Affirmation method: Use of positive sentences such as I am confident. I will perform. I will prove I am perfect.
  7. Argument method: we must challenge our brain when it refuses to do the things . By doing this we can increase our limits.

Where good ideas come from- Steven Johnson

Everybody wants to know from where good ideas come from. How innovation comes into existence? what kind of  environment is needed to breed them? Steven Johnson demonstrates with practical examples of the patterns that breed innovation in his book 'where good ideas come from'.
He breaks innovation/idea generation in 7 step pattern as the adjacent possible, liquid network,s the slow hunch, serendipity, error, exaptation, platforms. Thus he demonstrates innovation is not instantaneous/eureka moment. Ideas are slow hunches cultivated for months, years even for decades. That is the reason city has more innovations/ technology over towns. Ideas develop slowly.

Thus to summarize ideas do not come from individuals working alone they must be connected to share hunches small hunches grow into big hunches and in a environment that fosters innovation generate over time
